SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to solving the problems of the prior art regarding a cash register for goods comprising a carriage, an identification device for identifying goods, a display for displaying identified goods and a payment unit for payment by card and / or cash, which checkout counter can be easily switched between a checkout counter for serving cashiers and a self-service checkout counter.
The invention as defined in claim 1 is a possible solution to the above problems with preferred embodiments according to the subclaims.
In a variant of the invention, a cash register is further provided which further comprises a trolley. The carriage which is movable between a first position and a second position is arranged in the first position over a first portion of said carriage and in the second position over a second portion of said carriage, said display being arranged on the carriage.
The payment unit can thus be of a type that handles cash, ie. a terminal for entering banknotes and coins or which only handles payment by card. An additional alternative is, of course, that the payment unit is a combination of card reader and cash unit. Another possible solution is one that is common today with cash counters where the customer can put coins in the cash unit and get change coins from the same but where the banknotes are handled by someone from the cash register, ie. Banknote entry and delivery are handled by staff.
By arranging a trolley according to the above in this way, a cash register can be easily adjusted from being a service counter to becoming a self-service counter and back to a service counter position. In a smaller store with, for example, space for 4 checkout counters, a checkout counter can be staffed and thus in a service position during times with few customers and the remaining 3 counters are in a self-service position. When then the customer load increases, ie. when more customers are in the store, you change the self-service counters to become manned checkout counters and then back when the load decreases. This thus means a saving in personnel costs because staff in a store / supermarket do not have to be trained to sit at the checkout but can instead do other chores when the customer load is low.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the first identification device is arranged next to the first portion of the cash register, a second identification device, the road unit in such a way that the carriage is arranged over both the first portion of the weighing unit and the first identification unit in the first position. . The second identification device is arranged next to the second portion of the road unit in such a way that the carriage is arranged over both the second portion of the road unit and the second identification unit in the second position.
In a variant of the invention, the payment unit is arranged on the trolley. The identification device is usually of such a type that enables identification of a product by means of the product bar code, but there is the advantage identification device built into the disk is first and foremost that there are no other forms of identification possibilities. with a few moving parts. At the same time, this can sometimes be a disadvantage because some items are too large or too heavy to be lifted onto a checkout counter. In the latter case, it is appropriate for the cash register to be supplemented with a hand-held identification device so that these goods can remain on, for example, a shopping cart.
Preferably, the display is a touch screen. In self-service mode, this is especially advantageous when goods that must be weighed must be registered at the checkout counter. For example, fruit may have its own icon on the display. When a customer 10 15 20 25 30 points to this icon, all fruits appear as their own icons and the customer chooses the fruit for which the price is to be calculated. The price per kilo is thus registered in a database, whereupon the price for a bag with a special kind of fruit can be registered.
In the same way, it is then possible to register other fruits, vegetables, etc. In an extreme case, it is possible to use a touch screen to completely exclude an identification device of the above-mentioned type at a checkout counter and instead register all goods via the touch screen. It is of course more time efficient to be able to use an identification device which reads, for example, bar codes or the like. In addition, the risk of an item being incorrectly registered as another product is reduced.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the cash register comprises a second display arranged for display from one side of the cash register and wherein the first display is arranged for display from the other side of the cash register. This minimizes the work of adjusting a cash register according to the present invention because one screen is always facing the "customer side" and one is facing the "manned" side.
In addition, the customer has an opportunity to check that the goods are registered correctly, or that the staff can check that the customers register the goods correctly. An alternative to having two displays is to have a display that automatically turns the display in a certain direction depending on the position of the trolley.
Preferably, the second display is also the one arranged on the trolley in order to, among other things, minimize the size of the cash counter. The development in recent years has been that the displays have decreased in size, but that the holders are still relatively strong and space-consuming. In a solution with two displays directed in different directions, a holder can be used for both displays and thus the space required is minimized. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the carriage is readable in the first position and in the second position. To minimize the risk of errors, it is advantageous to have clearly defined working positions for the cash register. The reading can also be linked to the activation of the road unit and thus the deactivation of the road unit when the carriage is between the two positions. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the activation of the path is controlled by a switch button. The identification device comprises in its simplest form a bar code reader and / or a symbol reading sensor for reading a label arranged on the product. The identification device may be arranged to use optical character recognition and / or (machine) text interpretation, but may also be known. The identification device may also consist of a so-called RFID reader, which directly be a simple barcode reader that has been around for a long time. reads the code and converts it into electrical signals.
RFID is an abbreviation of the English "Radio Frequency lDentification" and is a technology for reading information at a distance from transponders and memories called "tags". A simpler type of "tag" corresponds in practice to ordinary barcodes, but a more advanced "tag" has a built-in memory that tends to write to several times. The RFID reader comprises a device which generates an oscillating magnetic field which induces a sufficient voltage in an antenna present in the "tag" for the "tag" to be able to transmit its contents, ie. their identity.
In the case of an identification device, include a camera for still images or moving images. more advanced identification device for reading, the images can then be processed in a processor in a known manner to identify a text or symbol. The identification device may comprise one or more identification units.
As an example, it may be mentioned that a first identification device may be arranged to be used by the customer at the self-service position at the checkout counter and a second identification device may be arranged to be used by the cashier at the service position at the checkout counter. The identification device may also comprise only one unit arranged to be used by the customer and the cashier. The identification device can then be mounted in such a way that it is movable from one side of the cash register counter to the other side of the cash register counter, depending on who is to use it.
For ergonomic reasons and for the reason that the product is to be placed on the weighing unit after identification, it is suitable that the identification device is arranged on the opposite side of the cash register in relation to the user (customer or cashier).
The checkout counter can include a hand-held sensor that is guaranteed to identify the product and which e.g. can be used for goods that are too large for the control device. The use of the hand-held sensor can be connected to warning systems for personnel who are called in to help and to check that everything is going right. In addition, goods that are too large to pass through the control device can be "flagged" (i.e. specially marked) in the goods register so that they can pass without weight control. Staff are also notified that such an item is being handled.
In order for the cash register to function optimally, all units included in the cash register are connected to a processor. According to the invention, the identification device, the goods register and a control device are thus connected to the processor which controls the cash register. The processor is typically a computer or the like and is known from the past.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the trolley is arranged in one of the said two positions over a cash drawer. The most practical is that this is the self-service position so that the customer can not access the checkout. In order to further ensure illegal access to the cash register, the cash drawer is preferably legible by means of a reading.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES The invention will be described in the following with reference to the figures.
Figure 1 shows an embodiment of a cash register in operating position according to the present invention in perspective from the customer side.
Figure 2 shows the cash register in figure 1 in a self-service position in perspective from the customer side.
Figure 3 shows the cash register in figure 1 in the operating position in perspective from the personnel side.
DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS Figure 1 shows a cash register 1 according to the present invention in operating position in perspective from the customer side. The cash register counter 1 for goods comprises a carriage with a first batch 2, an identification device 3 for identification of goods, a display 4 for displaying identified goods and a payment unit 5 for payment by card. The cash desk 1 further comprises a trolley 6, the trolley 6 being movable between a first position and a second position in the position shown enables the use of said identification device 3 and the first portion 2 of the road unit. The display 4 and the payment unit 5 together with a second display 9 are arranged on the trolley 6.
In figure 2 the cash counter 1 according to the present invention is shown in self-service position and thus the second portion 7 of the road unit and a second identification device 8. In figure 1 the second portion 7 of the vehicle and the identification device 8 are covered by the carriage 6. In figure 2 the carriage instead covers the first portion 2 of the weighing unit and the identification device 3.
The cash register 1 according to the present invention is shown in figure 3 in the operating position from the personnel side, wherein a cash drawer 10 is visible. 10 is a self-service position, as shown in figure 2 The cash drawer hidden under the trolley 6 when the cash register is in All figures show a customer basket 11 placed on a portion 12 of the cash register 1 which enables placement of the customer basket 11 on any side of the cash register 1 the registration of goods. Ie. for self-service, the customer basket 11 is placed as in figure 2 closest to the customer and on the other side when handling cashiers. The goods are moved from the shopping basket 11 "past" the identification device 3, 8 and then, for example, packed in bags on the other side of the identification device 3, 8. Said second side is constituted in the embodiment shown by a control scale 13.
When the cash register is 1 in self-service position, as shown in figure 2, one item is picked at a time from the shopping basket 11. In cases where an item has a bar code, the identification device 8 is used for registration and then placed on the other side of the control scale 13. In the case of a be that has a price linked to a barcode, the item is not checked. If the product is instead of such a nature that it is to be weighed, the customer must place the product on the weighing unit and then use the display 9 to define which product is to be weighed. When the customer then places the weighed product on the "other side", the product is checked by the scale 13.
It will be appreciated that a variety of modifications of the above-described embodiment of the invention are possible within the scope of the invention, as defined by the appended claims. Thus, for example, as described above, the cash register counter 1 can be connected to one or two conveyor belts on which the goods are moved to the cash register counter 1 and, after registration, are further moved to a batch for unpacking the goods. Furthermore, as stated in the requirements, the payment unit may alternatively be a cash payment unit or a combination so that payment can be made with both card and cash.
